Luke and Nola win the Overall Finals of the YKC stakes at Crufts!

Luke's Handling

I started handling at the age of 8, quickly catching the bug and it hasn't left me since. I am very lucky to have a supporting family and a parent who shares the same hobby. I have gained success beyond what I dreamed when first set out in the dog show scene, in the breed and in the YKC and JHA classes. The two successes which I see as my biggest achievements in the YKC classes are winning my respective category at Crufts 2012 in the YKC handling and winning the Overall YKC stakes final at Crufts 2013 with my whippet. I would say that my biggest successes in the breed ring would be winning Group 3 at Crufts with my Saluki and eventually becoming Top Saluki and #2 Hound 2012 in the UK! I now own whippets and salukis and consistently succeed in their showing career, something I am very proud of.

Group 2 at East of England Championship Show.
4th Best Puppy in Show at the Houndshow Championship Show.
Group 3 at Crufts.
Group 3 at Hound Association of Scotland.
Group 3 at Birmingham National.
BIS at The Northern Saluki Club Champ Show
Group 4 at Scottish Kennel Club.
Group 2 at Three Counties.
Group 2 at Richmond.

I would like to gain as much experience as possible and would love a challenge with any breed.

I have already handled many breeds, here is a list of various breeds I have enjoyed showing:

for the first time at Crufts!!!
The judge, Leila Tarabad said "1. Luke Johnston (Saluki) I loved watching this young man working with his dog. He was totally relaxed with no sign of nerves, smartly presented and extremely polite. The whole performance seemed effortless from beginning to end with everything done correctly and quickly with no fuss. His lines were totally straight, corners neat, set up quick and movement so graceful the pair of them really were moving as one. Unfortunately his breed judging clashed with the finals so he only just arrived in time for the end of the class unsettling him slightly which was a shame as he was a definite contender for the title. Regardless of this he is a superb handler who’s style I think would suit any breed, I’m sure he has a very bright future ahead of him. "
